  • What is radiant heat?
Radiant heat is generated through infrared light waves. Val6 heaters heat up to the temperature required to emit infrared light waves. When infrared light leaves the surface of an object, radiant heat is created and travels to the surfaces of other cooler objects.
  • Why choose radiant heat?
Radiant heat is... 1. Unaffected by air-movement. Since radiant heat is created through infrared light waves, rather than heated air, radiant heat allows you to heat desired bodies and objects that will be unaffected by air movement, such as wind, much like traditional forced-air heaters (e.g. torpedo heaters) would be. The radiant heat created by VAL6 heaters essentially penetrates evenly just like heat from the sun itself would. 2. Odorless and smokeless. The high temperatures in which fuel has to be heated to emit the infrared light waves that generate radiant heat creates a clean, complete combustion system that produces less than 1 part per million (ppm) carbon monoxide. This state-of-the-art combustion system makes VAL6 heaters virtually odorless and smokeless, further contributing to the comfortable environments they create. 3. Fuel-efficient. Again, the extremely high temperatures needed to convert fuel to infrared waves and radiant heat creates a virtually 100% fuel-to-energy conversion that maximizes the use of the fuel you put into VAL6 heaters. This makes VAL6 heaters the most fuel-efficient heaters on the market.
  • What type of fuel can I use in my VAL6 heater?
Diesel #1, #2, or Kerosene can be use in the VAL6 heaters.
  • What is the warranty period on a VAL6 heater, and how can I submit a warranty claim?
“SHIZUOKA SEIKI warrants that its heaters and component parts will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 24 months from date of purchase, when properly installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with the installation and Maintenance Instructions, safety guides and labels contained with each unit. If any component proves defective in either material or workmanship during the limited warranty period, Shizuoka Seiki, at its option, repair the defective part or equipment, or replace it with a new part or equipment.” Note: normal “wear and tear” is not covered by the warranty. It is necessary and normal to periodically replace such parts as the fuel nozzle and filter element. Please contact us to request a Warranty Claim Form.
  • Where can I find my VAL6 model name and serial number?
For the most widely sold VAL6 heater models, the model name and serial number information is located on a label on the plastic burner cover which may be black or yellow depending on the heater model. Once you locate this information it would be a good idea to record it on the owner's manual. Your VAL6 heater can continue to provide heat for 20 years or more in which time the label may fade or wear away. You will need the model name and serial number if you need to order replacement parts.
  • What should I do at the end of each winter season to maintain my VAL6 heater?
After heater season is over: Please drain your VAL6 heater's fuel tank. Replace the fuel filter and nozzle to keep your heater in good condition and ready for next season. Wipe off the eye of the flame monitor with a soft dry cloth or cotton tipped applicator. Use compressed air to blow the dirt/dust out of the fan motor. Check the insulation cone/cylinder for deep cracks that go through to the outer metal cone/cylinder. Replacement may be necessary if deep cracks are present. All new VAL6 heaters come with a standard maintenance kit, including the appropriate fuel filter and nozzle, as well as a nozzle wrench for your VAL6 heater. If you need to order more supplies, please click here or click the Parts tab under Products on the main page.
  • How do I drain my VAL6 heater's fuel tank?
The drain plug for the VAL6 heaters is located on the underside of the fuel tank. Using a wrench, remove the plug to drain the fuel. It is recommended this is done at the end of each winter season. The exception is the DAYSTAR VAL6 heater. There is no drain plug, the fuel tank can be removed and inverted to drain or simply leave it running until it runs out of fuel. For all VAL6 heaters, the tank should be drained periodically and cleaned of debris that can accumulate from dirty fuel. This debris will clog your fuel nozzle and filter element.
  • How do I change my VAL6 heater's fuel filter?
First, identify your VAL6 heater's model. EPX, KBE5L, KBE5S, KBE5S-V The fuel filter assembly is located below the burner box on the bottom right of the unit. Having a cup/bowl ready to catch any excess fuel, unscrew the filter bowl. The red filter will slide on/off. Use a clean, soft cloth or paper towel to wipe any debris out of the fuel bowl. DO NOT use a cleaner such as brake cleaner to clean the fuel bowl. Once the fuel filter is exchanged, reassemble the filter bowl. MPX, DAYSTAR, FIR-2000 Unscrew the copper fuel line from the inlet port of the fuel pump, then pull the rubber gasket up from the fuel tank, exposing the fuel filter. Slide the fuel filter off and replace with a new one. Once complete, reinsert the gasket and reattach the fuel line. GN5/GP5 II The GN5/GP5 II utilize a fixed air filter. The only maintenance needed in respect to the "filter" will be blowing the air filter out at the end of the season to remove any debris. FIR 2000, FIR 1300 The fuel filter is attached to the filter assembly which is inserted in the fuel tank next to the fuel tank cap. Remove the filter assembly from the tank to replace the filter. FIR X5 Unscrew the copper fuel line from the inlet port of the fuel pump, then pull the rubber gasket up from the fuel tank, exposing the fuel filter which attaches to the suction pipe assembly. Slide the fuel filter off and replace with a new one. Once complete, reinsert the gasket and reattach the fuel line. *For service assistance, please call or email Shane at 304.890.7831, shane@southeastval6.com
  • How do I change my VAL6 heater's fuel nozzle?
First, identify your VAL6 heater model. Refer to the "How To Videos" section to watch a step-by-step guide on how to change your VAL6 heater model fuel nozzle: EPX, KBE5L, KBE5S, KBE5S-V Using a 13mm wrench, loosen the 3 nuts behind the burner cone; the entire burner assembly will tilt back exposing the nozzle. Using the nozzle wrench provided in your maintenance kit, unscrew the nozzle, and replace with appropriate nozzle for your unit (refer to unit's maintenance guide for appropriate nozzle size). Tighten nozzle down with nozzle wrench, then replace burner assembly and replace screws to reattach to burner cone. MPX, DAYSTAR Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove burner cover. Then, unscrew the copper fuel line from the inlet port of the fuel pump. Remove the two lead wires from the overheat sensor, located above the fuel pump. Using a 10mm, wrench remove the two nuts at the top of the burner assembly and one at the bottom. The entire burner assembly will then tilt back, exposing the nozzle, replace appropriate size nozzle. Reassemble unit in reverse order. *For service assistance, please call or email Shane at 304.890.7831, shane@southeastval6.com.
  • How do I connect my VAL6 heater's thermostat?
First, identify your VAL6 heater model. KBE5L, KBE5S, KBE5S-V, DAYSTAR, GN5, GP5 II Underneath the burner box on the KBE5L, KBE5S, KBE5S-V, and DAYSTAR VAL6 heaters, there are two white wires that are snapped together to make a loop. The connection is sealed in a tight plastic sleeve. Disconnect these two wires, you may need to carefully cut the plastic sleeve in half if it won’t pull apart. Plug the wires in to the corresponding female/male ends on your thermostat. It is recommended you remove the thermostat and reconnect the two wires when moving any VAL6 heater outdoors, as the thermostat is not water-resistant. EPX, MPX The EPX and MPX VAL6 models come equipped with an external thermostat port, located on the control panel of your heater. To use, remove the cover on the external port, then connect your thermostat. It is recommended you remove the thermostat and re-cover the external port when moving any VAL6 heater outdoors, as the thermostat, nor uncovered port is water-resistant.
